Olá, pessoal!
This is Foster from Carioca Connection.
Apologies for the radio silence from our end. For those of who that don’t know — we’ve had a crazy couple of months.
Honestly, the past few weeks have been really difficult for me. Like, comically bad…
- I dislocated my shoulder trying to go to the bathroom (a story for an upcoming podcast episode)
- Our flights returning to Portugal were delayed, rebooked, the experience was miserable with the whole dislocated shoulder thing…
- And our bags with all of our belongings are still in the Munich airport
- And all of our podcast equipment/our whole lives are in those bags…
- Last but not least, upon arriving to Portugal I discovered a family member passed away…
Like I said, comically difficult. Life has been tough.
One of the few bright lights during this dark time has been our weekly workshops with the members of the CC Club.
When I’m really down, studying Portuguese on my own is just too difficult. To be honest, I don’t remember the last time I really studied Portuguese on my own.
But, magically, studying with a group of like-minded learners transforms “studying” into “hanging out with friends.” After a CC Club class, I don’t feel depressed and depleted.
I feel energized, hopeful, even. There is something weirdly life-affirming about learning in community.
This is all a long way to say that we will put a pause on recording new episodes until early 2024. In the meantime, we will be playing some of our favorite episodes from the archives on the podcast feed.
Today’s episode: Social Media in Brazil
I love this episode for so many reasons.
It’s hilarious. It shows our age. How much the world has changed since we published the episode in 2016…(!)
My Portuguese is so bad. It makes me wince.
Alexia is so patience while I do some version of a bad impression of myself trying to speak Portuguese.
It’s humbling.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did revisited this trip down memory lane.
Aquele abraço,
Foster
p.s. in 2024 — we are doubling down on the community aspect of Carioca Connection
p.p.s. — that means you will want to be in the CC Club in 2024 (more details to come soon…)
