What is Carioca Connection?
Carioca Connection is a Brazilian Portuguese podcast — and a lot more than that.
We're Alexia 🇧🇷, a Carioca from Rio de Janeiro, and Foster 🇺🇸, an American who fell in love with Brazil, its language, and eventually with Alexia. We've been making this podcast together since 2016. Nearly 400 episodes. Every single one a real conversation — never scripted, never performative.
The podcast exists because we believe the best way to learn real Brazilian Portuguese is to hear real Brazilians speak it. Not textbook Portuguese. Not European Portuguese. The language that actually lives in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and everywhere in between.

The CC method
Here's how it works — and why it works.
Every episode of the podcast is a real Brazilian conversation. We pick a topic — a film, a musician, a cultural moment, a slice of daily life in Brazil — and we talk about it the way real people do. Naturally. With slang, with detours, with laughter.
Then we build a worksheet around the episode: a fully annotated transcript with vocabulary explanations, cultural notes, and grammar highlights. So you don't just listen — you study inside a real conversation.
